objectives :
participants will be able to collect their own GPS data and visualize them in a GIS solution
participants will be aware of the different options to visualize data they have collected with GPS

prerequisite : no, a minimum of understanding of spatial data is desirable
different teams will be made depending on the level of GIS knowledge, people without GIS knowledge will work with google earth

8.30 -9 : Welcome and installing computers (getting the software on the computer, checking internet access)

9 – 9.30 introduction game

9.30 -10. 30 theory
What is GIS?
What is the coordinate system? Why is it important?
10.30- 11h coffee break, install mytrack on smartphone through google play.

11-12h theory
What is a GPS, how does it work?Different options to download data from a GPS.
DNR garmin, manual read, direct download in GIS solutions

12-12.30 making groups

12.30-14 h GPS exercise during lunch time

14-15. mapping your data on a GIS solutions in team

15 -16 team presentations and discussion
surviving with what we have, GIS solutions pro and con (google earth, qgis, Arc)


Others
Material to take with you : a laptop if any, a GPS device /mobile phone with GPS (if android try to get my tracks installed) if any, raincoat/umbrella (we will be outside for a while collecting data)
